Freedom, Justice and Crime

We call for the defense and extension of the liberties guaranteed in the Bill of Rights, including freedom of speech, press, assembly and association, and the right to keep and bear arms for individual and collective defense. The ultimate guarantee of those rights is the organized strength of the working class.

Capitalism and poverty breed crime and repression. Working class people are the primary victims both of street crime and of police reaction to it. The bosses use laws against victimless activities, "legal" and illegal expansion of police powers, military and paramilitary occupation of poor and minority communities, and diversion of resources to police and jails, to keep workers intimidated and dependent.

Candidate lauds League of Women Voters, Congressmember Woolsey PDF Print E-mail
This statement was issued by 6th Congressional District candidate Eugene Ruyle on September 24, 2010.

Socialist candidate calls for open debates, lauds League of Women Voters, Congressmember Woolsey

I want to thank the League of Woman Voters for inviting ALL of the candidates to the two forums they have organized in California's Sixth Congressional District, in Santa Rosa on September 19 and in Novato on October 13. The League's integrity in this regard stands in stark contrast to what has become standard practice in statewide politics, where only the candidates of the so-called "major parties" are allowed to speak.

I also want to thank Congressmember Lynn Woolsey for participating in both forums. Again, her courage stands in stark contrast to the usual behavior of statewide candidates of the Democratic and Republican parties.

Not only Peace & Freedom, but also candidates of the Green, Libertarian, and American Independent parties are regularly denied access to public forms and the media. I agree with Green Party gubernatorial candidate Laura Wells in her suggestion that we think of the Democrats and Republicans as the Titanic Parties, because they are so rich and powerful, and, like the Titanic, they are leading us straight into disaster, economic, political, and environmental disaster.

We need to start thinking outside the two party box. We need to hear the voices of independent political parties, independent in the sense that they have not been bought and paid for by the giant corporations that are riding roughshod over our lives.
