Sign petition! Lynne Stewart: Warden RECOMMENDS Compassionate Release

By Lynne Stewart and Jeff Mackler, with an introduction by Eugene Ruyle

Posted on May 1, 2012 by the Communications Committee

Introduction

The Peace and Freedom Party calls for "Freedom for all political prisoners," and we have supported political prisoner Lynne Stewart from the beginning. On April 12, 2010, the State Central Committee passed the resolution: That the Peace and Freedom Party protests and condemns Lynne Stewart’s unjust imprisonment and unprecedented re-sentencing, and that the Peace and Freedom Party endorses the campaign to free her, and calls for her release, and that the Peace and Freedom Party endorses the campaign to free her and the repeal of all laws that take away the democratic and civil rights of people in the United States.

We were pleased, therefore, to receive the following from
Lynne Stewart Defense Committee. We urge all our members and supporters to sign the petition at Justice for Lynne Stewart.

WARDEN RECOMMENDS COMPASSIONATE RELEASE FOR LYNNE STEWART BUT THE BATTLE IS FAR FROM WON

Dear Friends of Lynne and Mumia,

Below we include Lynne's brief letter confirming that the warden at FMC Carswell has recommended that Lynne Stewart be granted compassionate release for the treatment of her metastasized breast caner, now spread to her lungs and back. Thus, the first step in what was thought impossible before is now on the record. The warden's recommendation will now go through the bureaucratic apparatus of the state power beginning with the national Bureau of Prisons and thence to the original sentencing Judge John Koeltl and/or perhaps elsewhere in the government tangle of institutions. Compassionate release could be granted in months or days or not at all. We simply don't know.

But with this recommendation and other complex legal issues involved regarding requests from the federal authorities to delay a decision on Lynne's request to the U.S. Supreme Court to certify that they will hear her appeal of her false conviction, the frozen wheels are turning.

This is without doubt due to the 12,000 -plus signatures that you have generated demanding compassionate release. If there ever was a time to continue and/or join this fight it is now.

Ask all your friends and associates, all who have access to listserves, all organizations that can pass resolutions on this matter and more to act now. Lynne's very life is at stake.

To sign the petition go to: Justice for Lynne Stewart.

In solidarity,
Jeff Mackler, West Coast Coordinator, Lynne Stewart Defense Committee

LETTER FROM LYNNE STEWART, April 26, 2013

I was called down to see the social worker at around 1 p.m. This is the same woman who told me on at least two occasions that 'it couldn't be done. You don't qualify. Why would you bother??'

She didn't realize that I sign all mail 'Love Struggle' because I DO Love Struggle. And when anyone says I can't, it's just like a red flag (and I mean Red!).

Next stop is DC and then back to Judge Koetl. So Happy that the Compassionate Release was granted at Carswell and we are on the road!!!

Who DID It? --- The People Yes and we certainly deserve a VICTORY and this is one for sure!!

All Love. All STRUGGLE
Lynne

Preamble to Our By-laws

The Peace and Freedom Party is an open, multi-tendency, movement-oriented socialist party. We are united in our common commitment to socialism, democracy, feminism and unionism and our common opposition to capitalism, imperialism, racism, sexism and elitism.

These by-laws do not define socialism, nor do they identify the strategies and tactics of how to achieve socialism. We agree that socialism is necessary and that it will open up a democratic decision-making process for appropriate use of resources and distribution of labor.

Voter Registration

In California, voter registration is very important to political parties. The very existence of a political party as "ballot-qualified" is determined by the number of votes its statewide candidates receive or by the number of voters registered with the party. As the only feminist socialist political party on the California ballot, it is imperative that the Peace and Freedom Party continues as a qualified party. Quite simply, the Peace and Freedom Party will not be able to provide Californians with candidates that will represent us unless we register and vote Peace and Freedom.

For more information about registering to vote in California, you can visit the Secretary of State's website.
