Whereas, the Democrats along with the Republicans are responsible for this financial and fiscal crisis as a direct result of cost shifting to workers and students through deregulations, privatization and supporting capitalist control of energy, healthcare, housing, education, and transportation, and

Whereas, organized labor and students have the responsibility, power, and statewide organization to challenge these attacks,

Therefore be it resolved, the Peace and Freedom Party supports all public workers in California in the event of a statewide public workers strike of state, local, and county workers, teachers, and students in the UC and the CSU system, and

Peace and Freedom Party supports the call for such a day of action by AFT 2121, San Francisco Labor Council and the 2008 California AFL-CIO convention and will encourage all its public worker and student members to support this action in their locals and among all 1.5 million public workers in California.

Adopted by the State Central Committee on August 3, 2008

Preamble to Our By-laws

The Peace and Freedom Party is an open, multi-tendency, movement-oriented socialist party. We are united in our common commitment to socialism, democracy, feminism and unionism and our common opposition to capitalism, imperialism, racism, sexism and elitism.

We recognize that we do not all agree on what we mean by "socialism" or on the strategies and tactics of how to get it. We do agree that it means we can have a world where we can all be part of the democratic decision-making on how the wealth of the economy will be used because we will be owners of it, as well as the cooperative self-managing co-participants in producing it.
