President Trump’s latest, disastrous addition to the U.S. Supreme Court brings us closer to a corporate, quasi-fascist America. But perhaps we should thank the Republicans for taking off the velvet glove that hides their iron fist. No more wishy-washy liberal facade on the corporate state. Justices like Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch end the pretense that the Supreme Court might protect our liberties. We need to do that ourselves. Now more than ever we need to fight for our freedoms.
With the Supreme Court now firmly in the hands of the radical right and their corporate owners, we can expect efforts to turn back the clock to a white male dominated society. Sending women back to the kitchen, gays back into the closet, black people into ghettos and brown people over the border. Now more than ever we need to be unified to fight the right.
We do have the vote, and it’s important to exercise that right (please see the Peace and Freedom Party’s ballot recommendations for propositions here and PFP-endorsed candidates here), but don’t be fooled into thinking that voting will change the basic nature of the capitalist beast. The only time the establishment responds to our demands is when they are followed up with direct action. Now more than ever we need to be in the streets.
