The religious right has killed again.
Kansas abortion provider Dr. George Tiller has been murdered while attending church. The killer(s) are suspected of being religious right, anti-abortion, extremists. These are the same types of ignorant hypocrites who bombed abortion clinics in the 1980's and have otherwise shown a disregard for our laws, our rights and common decency.
These forms of attacks are aimed at all women, their advocates and their providers. This act is more than murder. It is a part of a coordinated attempt to terrorize and intimidate all those who support women's rights and equality. As such, it should be subject to federal prosecution as both a hate crime and domestic terrorism. And those who preach this type of violence should be held as accountable for these acts as those who pull the triggers.
The Peace and Freedom Party's San Bernardino County Central Committee urges immediate action directed at Trader Joe's food stores.Recently, a 17-year-old worker named Maria Isabel Vasquez Jimenez died from heat stroke while laboring in a California grape vineyard. According to the United Farm Workers (UFW); "Maria had been working 8 hours in the blistering heat without shade or sufficient water. The closest water supply was a 10 minute walk away."
The Peace and Freedom Party's San Bernardino County Central Committee has endorsed AB 2716. This bill would require California employers to provide a minimum number of sick days to employees. The bill is sponsored by ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now), California AFL-CIO and others. This is common-sense, public health legislation that would benefit all parties involved - businesses, workers and consumers.
Sick employees who are financially forced to go to work spread their illnesses to both other employees and customers. This leads to additional labor lost to businesses and a lowering of consumer confidence in those businesses.
