The convention meeting will convene at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 2 at the Hawthorne Suites, 321 Bercut Dr., Sacramento. A debate among our four candidates will be in the same location on Friday, August 1 at 7 p.m. The credentials committee has noted that 100 members have been elected. |

Convention To Pick Ticket |

The Peace and Freedom Party’s California State Convention in Sacramento on August 2 and 3 will decide who goes on the ballot as the party’s nominees for President and Vice President. The delegates will be the members of the incoming State Central Committee elected in the June 3 primary election.

The rulers of the US plan to occupy Iraq and the region for a very long time. Whether a Democrat or Republican is elected President, and whichever of the two major parties controls Congress, as long as the region has oil and as long as the two corporate parties dominate our government, they will keep US troops in harm's way in the Middle East.

PFP Adopts National Organizing Plan |

On March 30 at the State Central Committee meeting in Los Angeles, the Peace and Freedom Party made a definitive decision to go national. A National Organizing Committee was set up, and a basic plan was adopted and referred to the NOC for implementation.

A Brief Socialist History of the Automobile |

No single commercial product in the history of capitalism has had a greater effect on the economy and politics than the automobile. No other product has been such a lever to increase consumption and increase markets in the developed world. It could be argued that the car, more than any other product, was at the very heart of the 20th century’s economic expansion. In US society, for over a century, the car has been raised on a cultural pedestal worshipping individuality and defining big business’ vision of freedom.

As a national party with much greater public visibility, the Green Party consistently out-polled the Peace and Freedom Party. In most of the state, that is. I soon realized that there was one county where the situation was reversed, and the Peace and Freedom Party consistently out-polled the Green Party.
